About Me

I have been teaching English in the same Midwestern, suburban public high school since 2005. In 2011, I became my school's gifted resource teacher as well. As a gifted resource teacher, I support the academic, college planning, and social-emotional needs of our school's identified gifted population.

Three out of the seven periods of my day are spent supervising a "Gifted Learning Lab," a study hall for our gifted students. I also host quarterly grade-level seminars for gifted students and facilitate independent study opportunities.

Although every year I've had students within my Gifted Learning Labs who have worked on independent studies for a grade, I've never taught a whole for-credit gifted education class. This blog is to track my progress as I attempt to design a gifted enrichment class centered on the spirit of the Maker Movement and rethink the way we deliver our secondary gifted education.
